Postcards from the DR

Note: This is third in a series about my trip to the Dominican Republic in late May 2011.

My plan to make monthly posts  has been done in this month by a backlog of grading. The story of my trip to the Dominican Republic will resume next month. In the meantime, here are some photos to enjoy.

Left: A flamingo rests on one leg near a wading pool on the grounds of the resort in Juan Dolio where I spent a couple of days scuba diving before the Latin Experience began.

Below: Laundry hung out to dry brightens the barrios of Santo Domingo every Saturday. Notice the power pole. I am amazed that the power grid works as well as it does and that fires are not more frequent. This is typical in cities in the DR.

Below: The Latin Experience group poses outside San Esteban after our opening Eucharist. I am the one who forgot to take of her sunglasses! We are joined in this photo by two Dominican Deacons-in-training.

Below: Dominican Deacon Emilio Pringle and I after the opening Eucharist. He's fine; I'm hot, as you can tell. The heat and humidity in the DR beats even Louisiana much of the time.
